May 2010 Club Projects - Card Assortment

Hello, I have a lot of catching up to do with my postings! In May, we did an assortment of cards and learned new techniques. Here they are! I will post individual card pictures as time allows.

Rose Card:
Inspired by Jeanette Lynton's Motherhood in Bloom cards. The colors I used were Colonial White, Blush, Hollyhock, and Olive. See the Rose Technique on Jeanette Lynton's blog to learn how to create these fun flowers. The scalloped edges were done with the EK Success corner rounder and the background paper was dry embossed with a stylus.  I also used Mini-Medley Accents in Antiqued Copper as my embellishment.

Paisley Card
The papers used were Cherry-O and Sweet Leaf card stock.  The stamp set was Paisley Praise and the smaller background stamps were done in Heavenly Blue ink over White Daisy card stock.  We also chalked over Versamark with Pebbles Inc. Pearlescent Chalks to create the larger cut out piece.

Cake Card
From the "Three Tiers" card pattern in Jeanette Lynton's Wishes.  Background paper is Blush cardstock and That's Amore B&T papers.  Colonial White rickrack, Clear Sparkles, and Cherished Flourishes stamp with Chocolate ink.

April 2010 Club Projects

Happy Spring, everyone! Our April Club project was a recipe box featuring the new Cherry-O B& T papers. We started with a white My Creations Recipe/Photo box and sponged color along the edges. For my box, I used a Blush inkpad. We then glued our papers to the box and sponged additional color along the edges. Before adding the paper to the inside of the box, I made a small ribbon loop and used Glue Dots to adhere it to the inside flap. I used Bonding Memories glue for the paper, which helped it to lay smoothly and not peel up. For embellishments, I used Mini-Medley Accents in Antiqued Copper, Cherry-O Level 2 My Stickease, and a Dimensional Elements letter for my initial. I also used the Hodgepodge Alphabet to stamp "Carla's Recipes" on the front. On the Dimensional Element, I did an emboss resist technique, using Versamark, white embossing powder, and a Togetherness stamp. After heating the embossing powder, I sponged on Cocoa ink, wiped off the excess with a tissue, and topped it with a thick coat of Liquid Glass. To finish inside of the box, I of course used the matching Sugar & Spice Card kit! All done!

Of course, cards were also an option for projects and we did these two cute ones, again using the Cherry-O papers. The stamp set was "Bowl of Cherries" and we used the new Mini-Medley Accents in Tulip. We were also mystified as to the meaning of the phrase "Life is like a bowl full of cherries." We knew it was something good but what exactly does it mean?

According UsingEnglish.com, it means that "life is simple and pleasant." However, according to Yahoo! Answers, it means "Life is like a bowl of cherries, mostly sweet with a few pits." There's also a song from the 1930's with this title . Regardless of our confusion with the phrase, we did lots of the rock 'n' roll stamping technique and had fun making our cards!
